CantoCan

Terms of Service

Last updated: August 4, 2026

Welcome to CantoCan (“the App”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the CantoCan website and services. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Description of Service

The App is a language learning platform that allows users to import text, PDFs, and online videos to generate interactive learning readers and study materials (“Services”). Some features are available without charge; others require a paid subscription as described below.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to create an account or use the App. By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only purchase a subscription with the consent of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account.
  • You are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account.
  • You may close your account at any time from the Account page. Doing so permanently deletes your account, your imported material, and all learning data. If you have an active subscription it is cancelled immediately and no refund is given for the remainder of the period you have paid for. A limited record of any subscription you agreed to is retained as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • CantoCan may suspend or terminate your account for conduct that violates these Terms. If CantoCan terminates a paid account for any reason other than a breach of these Terms, CantoCan will refund the unused portion of the period you have already paid for.

Subscriptions and Billing

  • Plans and prices. CantoCan offers paid subscription plans billed monthly. The current plans, their prices, and what each includes are shown on the CantoCan home page and again at checkout before you pay. Prices are in U.S. dollars.
  • Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically each month and continue until you cancel. Your payment method is charged at the start of each billing period. You will be told the price, the billing frequency, and how to cancel before you subscribe, and you must affirmatively agree to those terms.
  • How to cancel. You can cancel at any time from the Account page: choose “Manage billing”, then “Cancel subscription”. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and your paid features remain available until then. No reason is required and there is nothing you must do beyond those two steps.
  • Refunds. Payments are non-refundable, including for partial periods and for periods during which you did not use the App. Because you keep access until the end of a period you have paid for, cancelling early does not entitle you to a refund. This does not affect any rights you have under applicable law that cannot be waived.
  • Failed payments. If a payment fails, CantoCan may keep your paid features active for up to two weeks while the payment is retried. If payment is not completed, the subscription ends and your account returns to the free plan.
  • Changing plans. You can move between paid plans from the Account page. Changes are handled by our payment processor, which adjusts your charges accordingly.
  • Price changes. CantoCan may change subscription prices. Any change will be notified to you by email before it takes effect, will never apply to a period you have already paid for, and you may cancel before the new price applies.
  • Payment processing. Payments are processed by Stripe. CantoCan does not receive or store your card number or other payment credentials.
  • Taxes. Prices exclude any taxes that may apply. Where CantoCan is required to collect tax, it will be shown at checkout.
  • Promotional codes. Any discount code applies only as stated when you redeem it. Unless it says otherwise, your subscription renews at the standard price once the discount ends.

Usage Allowances

Features that rely on outside processing — PDF text extraction, translation, grammar breakdowns, and web page extraction — are subject to allowances that depend on your plan. The current allowances are shown on the home page.

  • The free allowance is a one-time amount. It does not renew or reset.
  • Allowances on paid plans are measured over a rolling 30-day period rather than a calendar month.
  • If an import would go past your remaining allowance, it stops at that point and keeps whatever was already processed. You are not charged anything extra and nothing is lost.
  • Reading, listening to audio, and word progress tracking are not subject to these allowances.
  • CantoCan may adjust allowances. Any reduction affecting a paid plan will be notified by email before it takes effect, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.

User-Generated Content and Uploads

  • Ownership. You retain all ownership rights to the text, PDFs, and files you upload to the App (“User Content”).
  • License to us. By uploading User Content, you grant the App and its service providers a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, and adapt your content solely for the purpose of providing the Services to you.
  • Prohibited content. You agree not to upload any material that:
    • Infringes on any third-party copyrights, trademarks, or intellectual property rights.
    • Contains malware, viruses, or malicious code.
    • Is unlawful, defamatory, or harmful.
  • Liability. You are solely responsible for the content you upload. The App does not monitor all uploads and disclaims all liability regarding User Content.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Access the Services through automated means, including scripts, bots, or scrapers.
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, usage allowances, or other technical restrictions.
  • Share one account between multiple people, or resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the Services.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the App, its servers, or its networks.

Intellectual Property

Excluding your User Content, all text, code, graphics, logos, software, and interactive features on the App are the exclusive property of CantoCan and are protected by copyright and trademark laws. You may not copy, scrape, or modify our proprietary code or design.

Third-Party Services

The App relies on outside providers to operate, including Stripe for payment processing and providers of hosting, authentication, email delivery, and language processing. Our Privacy Policy describes what each of them handles.

The App also embeds YouTube players for video lessons. By using these features you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.

Availability and Changes to the Services

CantoCan may modify, suspend, or discontinue the Services, in whole or in part, at any time. You are responsible for keeping your own copies of any material you consider important.

If CantoCan discontinues the Services entirely, or permanently removes a paid feature, CantoCan will cancel affected subscriptions and refund the unused portion of the period you have already paid for. Aside from that, CantoCan is not liable for any interruption or change to the Services.

Disclaimer of Warranties

The App is provided on an “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” basis. CantoCan makes no warranties, express or implied, that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely accurate in its Cantonese translations, romanizations, or text processing. Use the App at your own risk.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, CantoCan shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages resulting from your use of, or inability to use, the App, including but not limited to loss of data or files.

CantoCan's total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Services shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you paid CantoCan in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).

Changes to Terms

CantoCan may update these Terms from time to time. If CantoCan makes material changes, CantoCan will notify you via email or through a notice within the App. Your continued use of the App after updates means you accept the revised Terms.

Material changes to subscription pricing or renewal terms are handled differently: they will not apply to a period you have already paid for, and CantoCan will notify you before they take effect so that you can cancel if you do not accept them. Where the law requires your affirmative agreement to a change, CantoCan will ask for it rather than rely on your continued use.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of California, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision will be limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
